Quang Tri (VNA) – Representatives from ten provinces neighbouring Laos are seating at a three-day conference in central Quang Tri province to discuss the implementation of a master plan to add and upgrade border landmarks between Vietnam and Laos .
At the conference, co-organised by the Foreign Ministry’s National Border Committee and Quang Tri People’s Committee from July 16-18, the participants will be introduced with the plan and steps for its implementation.
From 1978 to 1987, Vietnam and Laos basically completed the border demarcation and landmark plantation on their 2,067 km common border line.
Then, the two countries decided to plant more and upgrade border landmarks in order to make the borderline management and protection more effectively.
Initially, 59 landmarks are scheduled to be planted from now to the end of 2008.
The 10 localities are the northern mountainous provinces of Dien Bien and Son La, the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum and the central provinces of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Nam.-Enditem
