Preparations for expanded Hanoi

Hanoi (VNA) – The Hanoi People’s Council convened its 15th session on July 16 before it joins the Ha Tay counterpart to discuss the personnel for expanded Hanoi .
The participants adopted a resolution on the city’s 2007 budget balance with earnings reaching 47.98 trillion VND, exceeding the target by 4.99 percent and up 21.8 percent from 2006.

People’s Council Chairwoman Ngo Thi Doan Thanh said relevant agencies of Hanoi and Ha Tay are urgently preparing contents for the joint meeting.

On May 29, the National Assembly passed a resolution to adjust the administrative boundaries of Hanoi and Ha Tay, Hoa Binh and Vinh Phuc provinces with a vote majority of 92.9 percent.

To take effect as from August 1, the expanded Hanoi will cover the current capital city and more than 219,000 ha of Ha Tay province, Vinh Phuc province’s Me Linh district and Dong Xuan, Tien Xuan, Yen Binh and Yen Trung communes in Hoa Binh province’s Luong Son district.

The expansion will increase the total natural area of Hanoi from 92,000 ha to nearly 334,500 ha, making population figures jump from 3.5 million to over 6.2 million.

Hanoi has undergone three administrative boundary adjustments with two expansions in 1961 and 1978 and a streamlining in 1991.-Enditem
