WB provides 30 mln USD credit to Cambodia’s health sector

17/07/2008 -- 8:45 PM

Phnom Penh (VNA) - The World Bank (WB) has provided 30 million USD of credit for the second phase of the health sector support programme for Cambodia.

The programme, approved by WB in June 2008, aims to improve health care and preventive health services for the Cambodian people, with particular emphasis on women, children and the poor, according to the WB’s press release.

The programme will help improve the quality of training of health professionals, strengthen health service delivery at health centres and referral hospitals and support the government in its role as the steward of the health system.

More poor people will benefit from the programme as it intends to scale up support to the Health Equity Funds to help the poor access essential health care, the press release said.

An agreement to this effect was signed in Phnom Penh on July 17 between representatives from the Cambodian government and the World Bank resident office.-Enditem
