Japan helps Laos improve primary education

Vientiane (VNA) - The Japanese government has granted over 127,000 USD through the Shanti Volunteer Association (SVA) for the renovation of a primary education for ethnic children in Saravane province, the Lao news agency (KPL) said.

An agreement to this effect was signed on July 15 in Vientiane between Japanese Ambassador to Laos Massaki Miyasita and country SVA representative Hotoshi Kawamura.

The renovation project aimes to encourage children to study Lao language through illustrated picture books made by SVA.

SVA is trying to provide primary schools across the province with 50 library boxes under this project. Each library box has about 100 picture books. Training of teachers is also provided in the project.

SVA is a Japanese NGO working in Laos mainly in the area of primary education.-Enditem
