Hanoi (VNA) – Physics students have begun arriving for the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) to be held in Vietnam from July 21-29.
The science experts will compete in physics theory tests on July 22 and 23 and practical tests on July 25.
Around 80 students and experts from Argentina , Brazil , Belgium , Chile , Iceland , Mexico , the Netherlands , Pueto Rico , Russia , Ukraine , Spain , the UK and the US , were the first to arrive in Hanoi on July 17 and 18.
On July 19 and 20 Vietnam will welcome more than 500 international guests from 72 countries and territories to attend the 10-day event.
It is the first time Vietnam will host the International Physics Olympiad after its successful organisation of the International Mathematics Olympiad last year.
The IPhO 2008 is not only a significant educational event but also one of the biggest tourism events of the year, with Vietnam mobilising more than 600 volunteers. This year’s event boasts the largest number of participating countries and territories in its history.
While in Vietnam , the students and officials will tour northern provinces ’ historic and cultural sites including the Temple of Literature , Bat Trang ceramics village, Hoa Lu ancient capital, Van Phuc silk village and the UNESCO-recognised world heritage site Ha Long Bay.-Enditem
