Hanoi (VNA) - Myanmar has ratified a charter by Southeast Asian nations that aims to create an economic group of half a billion people, Singapore's foreign minister said on July 18.
Myanmar will announce it next week officially, Singapore 's Foreign Minister George Yeo was quoted as saying on Singaporean Foreign Ministry’s website.
Only Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia have not ratified the charter. But foreign minister Yeo said he was confident the charter would be fully ratified by the end of the year.
ASEAN signed the charter in November last year, with the aim of creating an economically, socially and politically integrated group by 2015.
ASEAN's members are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.-Enditem
