OVs build summer camp at ancestors’ temple

19/07/2008 -- 9:42 PM

Phu Tho (VNA)- The “Vietnam Summer Camp-2008” was opened on the compound of the Hung Kings’ temple, which is dedicated to the founders of the Vietnamese nation, in the midland province of Phu Tho on July 19.

The camp this year draws 82 young Vietnamese residing overseas, who lit perfume sticks on the shrine of Hung Kings and visited national ancestors’s tombs after the inauguration ceremony.

Leaders of the Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, who co-sponsored the event, said the summer camp aims to uphold patriotism among young overseas Vietnamese (Viet Kieu).

It is also an opportunity for the second and third generations of Viet Kieu, who were born and grown up abroad, to meet local youths and improve their mother tongue, they said.

Deputy Director of the Committee of Overseas Vietnamese Tran Trong Toan said at the inauguration that “Such an activity will lay a foundation for young overseas Vietnamese to build up their pride as sons and daughters of the Vietnamese motherland and encourage them to be engaged more in the national development.”

It is the fifth consecutive year that such a camp has been held for young Viet Kieu to improve their knowledge on the motherland history and traditional culture.--Enditem
