Quang Ngai (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung urged investors and contractors to uphold their responsibility and be determined to obtain the target of putting the Dung Quat oil refinery project into operation in February 2009, while ensuring the project quality and safety.
The PM was making an inspection tour of the Dung Quat oil refinery project in central Quang Ngai province on July 19, whose construction work is being in the final phase.
Truong Quang Tuyen, Vice General Director of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) and head of the Dung Quat Oil Refinery Project Management Board, said that by mid-July, more than 95 percent of the whole construction project had been completed with the designing work being finished, the purchase of equipment 99.8 percent completed and the construction and installation work, nearly 84 percent.
Contractors and subcontractors have mobilised more than 11,000 workers for regular work at the construction site. The investor has also provided between 250-300 engineers and skilled workers to help contractors speed up the space of construction.
In order to put the Dung Quat oil refinery into trail operation and production as scheduled, the management board has trained and recruited more than 1,000 engineers and technicians.
The construction work of the Dung Quat oil refinery, with an annual design capacity of 6.5 million tonnes of products, started in June 2005. PetroVietnam has submitted to the Prime Minister for approval a plan to expand the Dung Quat Oil Refinery’s annual capacity to 10 million tonnes of products after the oil refinery goes into operation.
After his inspection tour of the Dung Quat oil refinery project and working session with the leadership of Quang Ngai province, PM Dung on July 20 visited the Dang Thuy Tram Policlinic in Duc Pho district. The PM presented gifts, including a bronze statue of President Ho and 32 TV sets to the hospital named after a female hero during the war.
- Visiting central Binh Dinh province on July 20, PM Dung urged the locality to continue focusing efforts on containing inflation, restoring macro-economic stability, ensuring social security and maintaining sustainable economic growth, with a view to promoting production and exports.
Earlier the same day, the PM toured the construction site of the province’s Nhon Hoi economic zone, which covers more than 1,800 ha.
