Hanoi (VNA) – Three new national records were set in the shot-put and walking race events at the Ho Chi Minh City Open Athletics Championship which wrapped up on July 19.

Ka Hoa from central Ninh Thuan province entered her name in the national athletics’ shot-put book with a throw of 14.40m, breaking the old record of 14.25m of Nguyen Thi Yen Trang from Vinh Long team.

Phan Van Tam also from Ninh Thuan set a new record in the men’s 10km walking race, clocking 47:10:36 minutes –almost 2 minutes faster than the previous record set by Tran Trung Nhan of Tien Giang team six years ago.

The third new record belongs to Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc from Da Nang team with a time of 25.26 sec in the women’s 5km walking race, breaking her own record of 25.48 sec.
