Drinking tea tradition prevails in modern life

Hanoi (VNA) - Sipping a cup of tea in the morning, after a meal or during a break from work has been a cultural tradition for Vietnamese for more than 1,100 years.

Regardless of residential place or personal status, Vietnamese always make tea as a gesture of welcoming their guests into their home and “quan tra coc”, a type of open-air, small-sized vendor that serves tea on the pavement, are found everywhere in the country.

With tea grown on 120,000 ha in 35 provinces, the tea industry is developing strongly across the country and provides a stable income for more 6 million people nationwide.

Made-in-Vietnam tea is available in 110 overseas markets and the country has emerged as the world’s fifth biggest tea producer and exporter with its 2007 tea export output reaching 110,000 tonnes, earning 130 million USD.

The tea industry has registered the CheViet trademark for industrial copyright protection in 73 markets worldwide.

To celebrate tea drinking traditions and promote the national tea industry, the Vietnam Tea Association held a “Vietnam Tea Day” in Hanoi on July 18-20.

On the evening of July 19, a festival glittered around the Hoan Kiem Lake where 100 mats were rolled out for locals and tourists to enjoy Vietnamese tea and indulge in the ritual of drinking tea.-Enditem
