Hanoi (VNA) – The government of Myanmar on July 21 ratified the ASEAN Charter, becoming the seventh member of the group to endorse the document.
The ASEAN Secretary General Surin Pitsuwan announced the Myanmar Foreign Minister Nyan Win delivered his country’s ratification at the 41 st ASEAN Foreign Ministerial Meeting (AMM) in Singapore, foreign media reported.
Of the ten members of the grouping, Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia have not ratified the Charter.
The Charter is expected to come into force after 30 days of all ten members’ ratification.
ASEAN's members are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.-Enditem
