Hanoi (VNA) – Cambodia has accepted ASEAN’s proposal to help the country and Thailand to resolve their border dispute.
Cambodia’s acceptance of the proposal came on July 21 after the two countries’ senior defence officials failed at a meeting of the Bilateral Border Committee to end the military standoff over land near the ancient temple Preah Vihear that was recently declared a World Heritage site.
In a letter sent to Singaporean Foreign Minister George Yeo, who currently chairs ASEAN, Cambodia's Foreign Minister Hor Namhong suggested Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam and Laos sit in an inter-ministerial group to seek a solution for the dispute.
ASEAN's members are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. –Enditem
