New plan on mining materials for cement production

23/07/2008 -- 11:54 AM

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam plans to exploit nearly 3.2 million tonnes of minerals with a total investment of 243 billion VND to meet cement production demand from now to 2020 and years later.

Specifically, the country will mine 2.2 million tonnes of limestone, 586 million tonnes of clay and 416 million tonnes of additive, according to a Prime Minister-approved plan on the exploration, exploitation and using of mineral for cement production until 2020.

The plan also calls for exploration activities to be conducted in the period with the aim of finding 2.2 trillion more tonnes of minerals.

Priority will be given to the exploration of mineral mines in areas zoned off for
cement factories development or near these areas, with due attention paid to environmental protection.

The mining of limestone and clay resources along national highways and coastline will have to include measures to avoid soil erosion.

Capital for mineral exploration and exploitation will be mobilised from individuals and organisations at home and abroad, the decision said.

The country has so far identified 763 mineral mines with a total reserve of 56,000 million tonnes for cement production nationwide.-Enditem
