HCMC improves water supply network with WB’s funding

HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City has got its hand on a project to improve urban water supply network with funding from the World Bank (WB).

The city’s Saigon Water Company (Sawaco) signed with a Philippine contractor – Manila Water Company – a 15 million USD contract on management and reduction of leakage of the water supply network in four inner districts No. 1, 3, 5 and 10.

Under the contract, the Philippine company will install leakage control equipment and help train personnel and transfer technology to Sawaco in the field.

Sawaco General Director Tran Dinh Phu said the project is part of the second phase of a WB-funded project to develop urban water supply in Vietnam.

The 44.66 million USD project included 740,000 USD for the first stage to study feasibility. The second stage has a total capital of 43.92 million USD, including a 32.91 million USD loan from the International Development Association (IDA) and 11 million USD contributed by Sawaco.

The project is lasting for 7 years from 2005 to 2012.-Enditem
