Overseas Vietnamese join HCM City summer camp

23/07/2008 -- 8:17 PM

HCM City (VNA) – Fifty young overseas Vietnamese (OV) from 14 countries are on a four-day summer camp in Ho Chi Minh City.

The camp, which began on July 23, is being held to give OV youth an opportunity to learn about the country’s history and culture through tours of and visits to a number of provinces in the Southern region.

The second and third generation OV will visit centres for orphans and disabled children, tour the Can Gio biosphere reserve and historical sites in HCM City, and also learn traditional music instruments.

Nguyen Phuong Linh, 17, from Germany, said this was the second time she had attended the annual summer camp in Vietnam. She said she wanted to learn business administration and return to Vietnam to work after completing her studies.

The City Committee for OV (COV) Chairman Phan Tham said the committee organised the camp with the HCM City Communist Youth Union to help young OV learn more about their homeland and join local youth in charity and voluntary activities.

In addition to support from the municipal People’s Committee, the camp also received financial assistance from local businesses and mass organisations.-Enditem
