City renews efforts to cut traffic jams

28/07/2008 -- 10:27 AM

HCM City (VNA) - The city People’s Committee has told municipal departments to take additional measures to curb traffic jams from August to the end of the year.

The committee has asked the Transport Department to control and clear 127 areas where traffic jams regularly occur and 51 areas that have a high rate of accidents.

The surveyors of the department have already begun to impose fines on over-loaded trucks arriving at the city’s ports.

The city’s traffic police will now patrol streets in certain areas from 7 pm to 2 am in an effort to identify traffic violators.

In addition, the People’s Committee said it would conduct research on building 14 pedestrian flyovers in urban areas and on highways, including Cong Hoa Street in Tan Binh district, Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street in Binh Thanh District and Truong Dinh Street in District 1.-Enditem
