· The Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Aug. 14 sentenced five Cambodian men between 15 and 17 years in prison for their role in an attempt to blow up the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Monument on July 29 last year. Those people were found guilty of terrorism (Saigon Giai phong, p8).

· Japan provides 150,000 USD in emergency aid for Vietnamese victims of floods (Quan doi Nhan dan, p8).

· Shares reach ceiling prices as a result of decisions to reduce petrol price and loosen trading band (Thoi bao Kinh te Viet Nam , No.196, page on securities). The Aug. 14 transaction session recorded soars in almost all shares in both bourses right after the petrol price decreased by 1,000 VND per litre and the trading band is to be loosened in both bourses as from Aug. 18.

· The central key economic zone is to be led by marine economy (Tuoi tre [Youth], No. 222, p1). According to a master plan approved by the Prime Minister, the central key economic zone will act as a transit point and a trade and processing centre of the Mekong delta and the Asia-Pacific region.
