· Measures worked out to develop the Vietnam-Lao border area (Nhan dan, p8).

· A boom forecast in Vietnam’s automobile market: automobile industry needs a long-term development policy (Saigon Giai phong, p4).

· 1.15 million USD for vocational training development (Saigon Giai phong, p2). Ho Chi Minh City signed on August 22 a pact with the Temasek Foundation and the Singapore Polytechnic (SP) institution to develop vocational training at schools in the city.

· Impacts posed by foreign direct investment (FDI) on Vietnam’s economy (Thoi bao Ngan hang, No. 101. p9). After 20 years since the Law on Foreign Investment in Vietnam was first put into force in 1998, the foreign invested sector has been playing an increasingly important role.

· National Assembly’s reports on equitisation of State-owned enterprises: land use and sales of stocks to workers high on agenda (Tien phong [Vanguard], No. 235, p1).

· Massive state employees quit their jobs (Thanh nien [Young People], No. 235, p1). It was considered just an unusual incident when more than 10 high-rank officials at the Ho Chi Minh City Economic Research Institute left their jobs at the same time. However, it has become an urgent burning issue that requires careful analysis when the Ministry of Home Affairs reported 16,000 State employees resigned from or quit jobs over the past five years.

· Made-in-Vietnam H5N1 vaccines proved to be safe and stable with human tests (Thanh nien, No. 235, p4).

· Mechanical engineering sector targets intensive investment (Thoi bao Kinh te Viet Nam [Vietnam Economic Times], No. 202, p5).

· Inter-bank interest rates put under control (Thoi bao Kinh te Viet Nam, No. 202, p5). The State Bank of Vietnam has decided not to “float” the inter-bank interest rates to stabilise the monetary market. Will the interest rates reduce and businesses get an easier access to loans following the move?

· VIP jet travel services for golfers to Vietnam (Thoi bao Kinh te Viet Nam , No. 202, p5). Hong Kong’s OrientSkys and Macau’s JetAsia airlines will cooperate with VNPT E-Travel to make luxury chartered flights to Vietnam , Laos and Cambodia .

· Construction of Vietnam ’s biggest petrochemical complex will begin soon (Dau tu [Investment], No. 101, p1).

· An additional 130 million USD will be invested in the Dai An Industrial zone (Dau tu, No. 101, p3).

· Pressure imposed on foreign investment capital disbursement (Dau tu, No. 101, p4).
