Public order breakers to be treated by law

28/08/2008 -- 8:51 PM

Hanoi (VNA) – The police of Dong Da district, Hanoi, on August 27 announced a decision to launch legal proceedings against a public order-disturbing case involving Thai Ha parish, which occurred on August 15 at the compound of the Chien Thang Garment Joint Stock Company at 178 Nguyen Luong Bang street .

According to the police, a number of people on August 15 broke down a 6-m long section of the wall surrounding the Chien Thang Company paving the way for some hundreds of people penetrating into the company’s compound to chop down trees, level the surface and pitch tents. They also brought in holy statues and crosses, held prayers and sang anthems at the site, causing public disorder.

In following days, Thai Ha parishioners were incited to continue bringing holy pictures and statues to the company’s compound. They even had intentions to place pictures and statues at the workers’ residential and working areas.

The Dong Da district People’s Committee had sent three circulars to the Thai Ha parish’s priest, requiring the parishioners to immediately stop law-breaking acts, take back pictures, statues, crosses, tents from the site, and cooperate with the local administration to restore the public order.

Ignoring the local administration’s goodwill, the Thai Ha parishioners’ unlawful acts continued in a more violent way.

In a complaint dated August 19, the Thai Ha parish’s dignitaries shamelessly denied all written answers from the administration. They continued asserting that they had received no documents which served as evidence that the land area was handed over to the State for management (in fact it was transferred by the Thai Ha parish’s priest Vu Ngoc Bich to the State in the 60s of the last century).

As far as the land area is concerned, the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee on August 27 sent an official letter to relevant agencies, requesting the latter investigate and define responsibilities of the related organisations and individuals, and recommend appropriate reprimand or punishment in accordance with law.

The Vietnamese Party and State have always been respecting the people’s right to freedom of belief and religion and grasping thoroughly their spiritual needs. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese people are by nature open to accept any religion or belief, regardless of its origin, provided that it does not harm the national interest and run counter to the nation’s traditions.

Any person, who intentionally hides under the mask of belief or religion to break law with bad intentions, will certainly be punished strictly.-Enditem
