Vietnam supports peaceful solutions to int’l disputes

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam advocates peaceful settlement of international disputes, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Le Dung said on August 28, referring to Russia ’s move to recognise South Ossetia ’s and Abkhazia’s independence.

The spokesman spoke about Vietnam ’s reaction to the fact that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree on August 26 recognising the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

He told the ministry’s regular press briefing that Vietnam pays attention to developments in the South Ossetia and Abkhazia issue.

“The country’s consistent policy is to promote peaceful resolution of internaitonal disputes in accordance with basic principles of international law and the United Nations Charter,” he said.-Enditem
