Russia to sell infantry fighting vehicles to Indonesia

Jakarta (VNA) – The Russian arms exporter Rosoboronexport has said it agreed to sell 20 Russian BMP-3F infantry fighting vehicles to Indonesia .

A contract worth 40 million USD was signed on August 25 for the delivery of a consignment of BMP-3F infantry fighting vehicles. The delivery would be made in 2010.

The BMP-3F is specially designed for operations at sea, with improved seaworthiness and buoyancy, and high fire accuracy. It can endure continuous amphibious operation for seven hours.

The vehicle is capable of engaging targets at a range of up to 5,000-6,000 metres with its antitank guided missile system 9K116-3 Basnya.

During an Indonesia visit by former Russian president Vladimir Putin last September, the two countries signed a weapon trading deal worth 1 billion USD.

Indonesian Air Force Chief Marshal Subandrio earlier said that Russia will deliver six more Sukhoi aircraft to Indonesia in October, bringing the total such planes of the Indonesian Air Force to 10.-Enditem
