Ottawa (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in Canada held a banquet in Ottawa on August 28 to mark Vietnam ’s 63 rd National Day and the two countries’ 35 th anniversary of diplomatic ties (1973-2008).

Attending the ceremony were Canadian Deputy Foreign Minister Lenn Edwards, President of the Canada-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Association Bryon Wilfert and Vietnamese people living and studying in Canada .

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Duc Hung highlighted Vietnam ’s great achievements during the renewal process and international integration.

Hung said over the past 35 years, Vietnam and Canada have seen fine developments in their relationship with two-way trade value exceeding 1 billion CAD in 2007. Canada is now the fifth largest among 82 countries and territories investing in Vietnam with the total investment of 6.2 billion CAD.

The exchange of high-ranking delegations has also helped boost the cooperation and mutual understanding between the two countries and two people, he added.

On the occasion, the Quang Ninh-born overseas Vietnamese community in Toronto presented 3,000 CAD as relief for flood victims in Lao Cai, Yen Bai and Phu Tho provinces which were hardest hit by storm Kammuri early this month.-Enditem
