Germany transfers wind power turbines to VN

29/08/2008 -- 6:40 PM

Berlin (VNA)- Germany-based Fuhrlaender AG Group on August 27 transferred the first five turbines to a wind power project in the southern central province of Binh Thuan.

The wind power plant 1-Binh Thuan, with a designed capacity of 30 MW, is expected to have its first turbine installed in November and finish the first phase of construction with 20 turbines installed by 2009 at a cost of over 817 billion VND.

In the second phase, the plant will be expanded to raise its capacity to 120 MW. Its operation licence is valid for 40 years.

Addressing the hand-over ceremony in Waigandshain, Vietnamese General Consul in Frankfurt/Main Nguyen Huu Trang highly appreciated the German leading wind turbine maker not only for its equipment supply but also its commitments to personnel training and transfer of wind power technology.

Under a recent survey conduced by the World Bank, Vietnam boasts the biggest wind energy resource in Southeast Asia with an estimated potential of 513,360 MW. The figure is 200 times higher than the design capacity of the nation’s biggest hydro-power project in Son La now under construction. It is 10 times over the gross capacity of the entire power industry forecast for 2020.--Enditem
