Outstanding students receive RVN-Vallet scholarships

Ha Noi (VNA) - The scientific organisation “Rencontres du Vietnam” (RVN) has presented RVN-Vallet scholarships worth 438 million VND (25,800 USD) to 130 excellent students of natural sciences from eight Central Highlands and southern central provinces. The presentation ceremony was held at the Da Lat University in the Central Highlands resort city of Da Lat on August 29. On the occasion, the Da Lat University presented certificates of merit to Prof. Odon Vallet from the world renowned Sorbonne University, the original sponsor of the scholarship programme, and Prof. Tran Thanh Van of Viet Nam, President of Rencontres du Vietnam , in recognition of their contributions to encouragement of studying. French-born Vallet, a doctor of law and a religious history professor at Paris-based Sorbonne University , set up the programme for high-achieving Vietnamese students in 2001. The funding is drawn from the professor’s personal inheritance handed down by his father, once a poor labourer who made his fortune from insurance.-Enditem
