Athletes arrive in Beijing for Paralympics

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnamese squad of disabled athletes, including eight athletes and six coaches, arrived in Beijing, China, on August 31 for the 13 th Paralympic Games slated from Sept. 6-17.

Almost 4,100 athletes from 148 nations and territories around the world will compete for 471 sets of medals in 20 events.

Vietnam will compete in the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games in weightlifting, tracks-and-fields, swimming and judo.

Vietnam’s Paralympics squad has doubled twice in the last eight years. Four years ago, Vietnam sent four athletes to the Athens Paralympics, up from a small squad of two sent to the Paralympic Games in Sydney in 2000.-Enditem
