Baku (VNA) – As a member of the Executive Board of the Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA), the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) is willing to share experiences and intensify cooperation both bilaterally and multilaterally with other OANA members, said a VNA official.
Nguyen Anh Tuan, Director of VNA’s World News Department, delivered the message at the 30th OANA Executive Board Meeting (EBM) under the theme “Information for All in Globalising World,” which convened in Baku , Azerbaijan , from Sept. 1-4.
Tuan, who is also head of the VNA delegation, stressed that news agencies need to improve their coverage efficiency by adopting new reporting styles and methods in order to bring accurate and impartial information to readers. He urged OANA member new agencies to cooperate closer toward this goal.
Participants to the 30th EBM noted that stormy development of information technology as well as huge and diverse information sources now available have posed both opportunities and challenges not only for news agencies, but also to information users as a large volume of information circulated on the internet are proved to be dishonest, inaccurate and prejudiced. In this context, and with the growing role of the Asia-Pacific region in the world, the OANA has become more important than ever before in providing true, accurate and objective information to readers.
OANA President Ahmad Mukhlis Yusuf highlighted the fact that the group’s membership increased from 33 to 41 and the number of visitors accessing to the OANA’s website has seen a monthly rise of 300 percent so far this year.
He said that the OANA will increase personnel training through seminars and professional courses, and boost cooperation with other regional news agencies organisations such as the European Alliance of News Agencies to fully tap the organisation’s great potentials.-Enditem
