HCM City firms spread Christmas cheer

HCM City (VNA) – With Christmas approaching, many firms are organising charity activities to help underprivileged children.

Vehicle dealer Sai Gon Scooter Centre is ready for its annual charity ride on Nov. 22, and is appealing to participants to bring with them gifts and toys for orphaned and underprivileged children in Can Gio district.

Patrick Joynt, director of the centre, said, “Last year we had more than 120 people participating in the 40km ride, and raised over 5,000 USD worth of gifts and toys for orphaned children in Dong Nai province”.

The Tho Xinh and Hero Film Communication companies are jointly oranising the Kids and Angels programme for underprivileged children.

Dozens of celebrities, like top model Le Hoang Bao Ngoc, will visit children at orphanages and shelters in Ho Chi Minh City on Jan. 14 and 15, bringing with them toys and food.

On Jan. 16 a gala diner will be held at the city’s Nguyen Du Gymnasium, which will include fashion and music shows. It will feature celebrities like Miss Vietnam Universe 2008 Nguyen Thuy Lam and Miss Tourism 2008 Phan Thi Ngoc Diem, pop stars Dam Vinh Hung, Ho Quynh Huong and Ho Ngoc Ha.

It will also see an auction of paintings by underprivileged children and gifts given by celebrities.

Dai-ichi and Cathay Life Insurance Vietnam Co. did their Christmas charity a bit early this year by giving away scholarships worth 380 million VND (22,400 USD) to 46 poor outstanding university students in the city and another 15 in Hanoi.

Liao Chih Chiang, Chairman of Cathay Life Vietnam , said the company is “proud to be a fellow traveller in these students’ journey to overcome their difficulties”.

Mead Johnson Vietnam joined hands with the Sai Gon Children’s Charity to donate over 100 bicycles to poor students in the suburbs of HCM City and rural areas of Tien Giang and Tay Ninh provinces.-Enditem
