China, India boost anti-terrorism cooperation

04/12/2008 -- 9:31 PM

Hanoi (VNA) - The Chinese and Indian military forces are to hold joint anti-terror military training exercises from Dec. 6-14 in India, China’s Xinhua news agency reported on December 4.

The two armies’ infantry companies will take part in the joint exercises, code-named "Hand in Hand 2008", in southern India's Belgaum district, the Chinese Defence Ministry spokesman, Huang Xueping, was quoted by Xinhua as saying.

The joint training programme is being carried out in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding for Exchanges and Cooperation in the Field of Defence, signed in 2006 and is listed in the annual exchange plans for 2008, following discussions by the two sides, Huang said.

The training exercises aim to enhance mutual understanding and trust and advance the development of relations between the Chinese and Indian armies, he said.

The two countries held their first joint anti-terror military exercises in Kunming, Yunnan province in southwest China last year. –Enditem
