Badminton: Top names still reign at Open

HCM City (VNA) – The third day of badminton’s 2008 Yonex-Sunrise Vietnam Open saw an easy win for seeded No 1 Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam in the men’s singles in Ho Chi Minh City , on Dec. 4. Minh, the world seed No 19, defeated Sathien Mouanevongsa of Laos in two sets by scores of 21-7 and 21-8. Hong Kong duo and No 1 seed Chau Hoi Wah and Wiratama Yohan Hadikusumo defeated Chou Tien Chen and Cheng Wan Hui of Chinese Taipis the same day. The host country also had another win in the mixed doubles event when Duong Bao Duc and Thai Thi Hong Gam defeated Wijaya Hendra and Sari Shinta Mulia of Singapore . In the women’s singles event, the tournament’s No 1 seed, Xing Aiying of Singapore, who is ranked 35 th in the world, had a difficult win against Japan’s Kurihara Ayane’s very determined play.
