27/02/2006 -- 9:05 PM

Kon Tum, Feb. 27 (VNA) - As many as 200 representatives from over 20 local ethnic groups attended the First Ethnic Minority Groups’ Solidarity Congress of Central Highlands Kon Tum province on Feb. 27.

Speaking at the function, Vice President of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee Le Truyen praised the renewal achievements of ethnic groups in the Central Highlands region in general and Kon Tum province in particular.

These achievements have proven the rightness and consistency in national policy of the Party and State, and shown constant growth of the national unity block, he said.

Over the past 60 years, Kon Tum province has continually strengthened unity among local ethnic groups, thus contributing to national liberation and re-unification as well as national construction and defence.

The local people’s living conditions have been remarkably improved over 20 years of renewal. Presently, all communes in the province have access to the national electricity grid and 81 percent of them have well-built medical stations. So far, Kon Tum has built more than 520 houses for poor people worth nearly 2 billion VND in total.

The congress nominated 60 outstanding delegates to attend the Central Highlands Ethnic Minority Groups’ Solidarity Congress to be held in Pleiku city, Gia Lai province, in March.-Enditem
