Ha Noi (VNA) - Combat against corruption and wastefulness and practice of thrift are issues of great concern for voters throughout the country, states a report presented by the Viet Nam Fatherland Front (VFF) during the on-going session of the National Assembly (NA) on June 14.
The VFF made this report after summing up 1,173 voter petitions from throughout the country.
According to the report, voters proposed that the NA, the Government and judiciary agencies impose strict punishment on people involved in corruption. Regarding the corruption case at Project Management Unit 18, they stressed the necessity of clarifying the responsibilities held by the Minister of Transport and Communications and officials of relevant agencies in the management and use of state funds, loans and foreign aid, particularly official development assistance.
Voters asked the NA to take action, including conducting votes of confidence, on cases of people involved in corruption, who hold posts voted on or ratified by the NA, and to consider talented and virtuous people for important governmental positions.
They also asked the Government to strictly punish people involved in corruption and wastefulness in the management and use of land and simplify administrative procedures, including accelerating the process of granting certificates of land use rights.
They recommended that the legislative body increase its oversight activities and elucidate responsibilities taken by individuals in the implementation of the Law on anti-corruption and wastefulness.
The continuous increase in prices of key goods, food safety, epidemic prevention and environmental pollution are other issues of voter concern.
Saying that since early this year, price hikes for key commodities have adversely affected the people's lives, voters asked for a proper adjustment of the prices of strategic and sensible commodities such as petrol, electricity, coal and water, and for tough measures to prevent fake and low-quality goods.
Additionally, they said that the Government should take timely measures to contain poultry and cattle epidemics and tighten control over subsidies for the culling of poultry and cattle to ensure that wrongdoings will not occur.
Regarding the aftermath of Typhoon Chanchu, they asked the Government to strengthen the quality of natural disaster forecasting and implement prompt prevention measures to help limit human and property losses.
They proposed that the Government reform its salary policy to avoid commodity price hikes as a result of slight increases in salary. Also, the Government should introduce policies to help low-income workers to buy houses and increase allowances for beneficiaries of preferences and social policies, they said.
Moreover, voters petitioned the NA and the Government to address issues related to education, healthcare for the poor, management and use of vaccines and human trafficking.-Enditem
