Da Nang (VNA) – Viet Nam has made significant progress and efforts in fighting corruption, said Dr Joachim Pohl, Project Coordinator of the ADB/OECD Anti-Corruption Initiative on the sidelines of a workshop initiated by Viet Nam in Da Nang on Sept. 9-10.
The workshop was known as the APEC Public-Private Dialogue on Anti-corruption and Ensuring Transparency in Business Transactions, part of a series of activities within the framework of the APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting and related meetings that are taking place in both Da Nang city and the town of Hoi An in central Quang Nam province.
Dr. Joachim Pohl said Viet Nam’s initiative to host the workshop indicated that Viet Nam attaches importance to the fight against corruption.
He hailed Viet Nam as an active member in the ADB/OECD Anti-corruption initiative and the APEC and commented that Viet Nam has made good use of past experiences of other countries in its combat against the corruption scourge.
The representative of the ADB/OECD Anti-corruption Initiative underlined the need to continue undertaking legal reform and institutional building and continue drawing strong support from the independent business sector and a strong independent society in making the fight against corruption more effective.
Kong Xiangren, Deputy Director General of Foreign Affairs Department of Ministry of Supervision of China, said “Viet Nam has played an important role in organising anti-corruption activities within the APEC framework”.
He cited as example a workshop concerning anti-corruption held in Ha Noi early this year.
Kong also talked about his ministry’s cooperation with the Government Inspectorate of Viet Nam, especially the exchange of information and experience in the fight against corruption.
Fighting corruption is the responsibility of all citizens and institutions. Therefore, the government, as well as the enterprises and civil society must take part in combating corruption. Civilians should be encouraged to report suspected corruption activities while the mass media should keep abreast with the fight againt corruption, said Kong.-Enditem |
