Ha Noi (VNA) - Investment in science-technology and personnel training will be the key to ensure the competitive edge of agricultural production after Viet Nam joins the WTO, said Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat.
Answering queries of the National Assembly on Nov. 24 regarding measures to help farmers overcome difficulties after Viet Nam joins the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Minister Phat said the ministry gives stop priority to the application of biotechnology in agriculture, especially the research on high-yield and high-quality plants and animals.
The ministry would also pay due attention to training in farming skills for farmers, particularly young people, and increase investment in agricultural and rural infrastructure, especially in remote and mountainous areas, as well as commercial facilities to serve the circulation of agro-forestry-fisheries products, he said.
Minister Phat also promised to build a complete legal framework to encourage farmers and enterprises to pour more investment into production and business.
Also at the session, Minister Phat presented reports on measures to prevent plant and animal diseases; protect and develop forests; build and manage irrigation systems; ensure food hygiene; and develop agricultural and rural cooperatives.-Enditem |
