Ha Noi (VNA) - National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong on Jan. 17 requested the procuracy sector to be one of the leading and reliable forces of the Party, State and people in the fight against corruption.
At a conference in Ha Noi, NA Chairman Trong asked the sector to strictly implement the Anti-corruption Law and the Resolution of the 3rd session of the 10th Party Central Committee on enhancing the Party's leadership in preventing and combating corruption.
He urged the sector to better coordinate with central agencies in the fight against corruption, particularly embezzlement and bribery cases.
"Preventing and fighting corruption and wastefulness have been acknowledged as one of the key tasks in the Party building work and a regular mission for the entire political system and society," the NA Chairman stressed.
The top legislator called on procuracy staff members to regularly study and brush up knowledge to keep up with judicial officials in the region and the world.
Chairman Trong praised the sector's efforts in protecting the socialist legal system, maintaining social order and creating a stable environment for the country's socio-economic development and international integration.
In 2006, the People's Supreme Procuracy instructed local People's Procuracy agencies to closely coordinate with the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Department to prosecute many major and complicated corruption cases, including scandals at the Project Management Unit 18 (PMU 18) and the land law violation in northern Hai Phong city's Do Son town.-Enditem
