Ha Noi (VNA) - The Government has decided to take its fight against corruption public by rolling out a website that records its efforts.
The site, htpp://www.chongthamnhung.thanhtra.gov.vn, that went online on June 28 is being run by the Government Inspectorate and will also feature a discussion forum, exchanges of information and the recounting of cases.
The Government has stepped up its efforts in combating corruption with a deputy prime minister affirming at an open discussion with international donors "to use any means necessary to root out the scourge."
A new unit amongst the country's police was also established in February that is charged with aiding the central Steering Committee for the Prevention and Combating of Corruption.
In 2006, the Government Inspectorate uncovered a bevy of graft and financial mismanagement cases that cost the country over 1,560 billion VND and close to 5.5 million USD. Other probes that were carried out by ministries, sectors and local authorities revealed graft of upwards of 4,822 billion VND. Also 2,900 cases were proposed for administrative punishments and 92 other cases involving 198 people were recommended for criminal prosecution.-Enditem
