Ha Noi (VNA) – Viet Nam's ministries and agencies are finalising legal documents in order to have a visa exemption policy for overseas Vietnamese in place by September 1, according the Chairman of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Nguyen Phu Binh.
During a recent visit to Italy, Binh, who doubles as Deputy Foreign Minister, told a gathering of overseas Vietnamese that visa exemption certificates that are valid for a duration of five years, would be handed out to people that provide the necessary documentation.
After obtaining the certificates, only a foreign passport and a visa exemption certificate would be required to pass through Vietnamese border gates, Binh said.
The multiple-entry certificates are valid for a maximum stay of 90 days each time and will benefit people of Vietnamese origin that hold foreign passports and their family members and foreign nationals that are husbands, wives or children of Vietnamese people.
Regarding a regulation on allowing overseas Vietnamese to buy houses in Viet Nam, Binh said the Government had earlier issued Decree No 90 on September 6, 2006, to guide the implementation of the Housing Law.
The Decree stipulates that those who are permitted to purchase homes in Viet Nam are overseas Vietnamese committed to long-term investment in the country or cultural experts and scientists who visit or reside in the country and contribute to the country’s cultural or scientific development.
Overseas Vietnamese who wish to retire in the country or those that have resided in the country for at least six months continuously will also be permitted to buy homes in Viet Nam.-Enditem |
