Ha Noi (VNA) – The National Assembly, on August 2, heard a government report to amend and supplement some articles of the Law on Corruption Prevention and Control.
Under the report, delivered by Inspector General of the Government Inspectorate Tran Van Truyen, the government proposed the adjustment of article 73 of the existing Law on Corruption Prevention and Control, recommending the establishment of Corruption Prevention and Control Steering Committees at the provincial level.
At present, the committee is only set up at the central level, with the Prime Minister acting as the committee head. The report stated that the adjustments are aimed at tightening mechanism in the fight against corruption.
Duties and the rights to supervise, discover and tackle corruption cases are recommended to transfer from the National Assembly’s Law Committee to the NA Judicial Committee.
Chairwoman of the NA Judicial Committee Le Thi Thu Ba presented a report on her committee’s examination of the draft law, saying that a majority of committee members agreed with the Government’s proposal.
Some members of the committee went on to suggest that the Corruption Prevention and Control Steering Committee should not operate under an administrative agency in order to operate efficiently .-Enditem
