Ha Noi (VNA) - The Central Steering Committee on Corruption Control met with the Viet Nam Fatherland Front (VFF) Executive Committee in Ha Noi on August 24 to discuss working together on the fight against endemic corruption.
Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong, who is also Deputy Head of the corruption watchdog, emphasised the public's role in eradicating nepotism from the country.
He said, “In an effort to gradually stamp out corruption and wastefulness, it’s necessary to work out a concrete and regular programme of coordination between the watchdog leadership and the Fatherland Front, the largest mass organisation in Viet Nam, as well as other agencies and organisations, to increase public participation in the fight.”
Huynh Dam, member of the Party Central Committee and Vice President cum General Secretary of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front, said recently the VFF has been instrumental into supporting anti-corruptive efforts.
“VFF chapters at all levels have worked closely with responsible agencies in discovering, investigating and dealing with corruption cases,” said the Front leader.
He added that in 2005-06, the organisation organised confidence votes for administrative grassroots positions such as the communal people's council chairmen and communal chiefs.
The votes unseated hundreds of unqualified officials and contributed stronger and more competent administrations, Dam said.
The Fatherland Front also organised tens of thousands of voters’ meetings to collect their opinions about National Assembly candidates and contributed considerably to the success of the recent legislative elections.-Enditem
