Ha Noi (VNA) – The United Kingdom has decided to provide a financial support of 4 million pounds (close to 8 million USD) for the first 18 months of the One UN Initiative in Viet Nam.
The announcement was made by Shahid Malik, UK Minister for International Development (DFID), at a press conference in Ha Noi on August 30, at the conclusion of his three-day visit to Viet Nam.
“The UK strongly supports the Vietnamese Government’s leadership in making the United Nations better able to help the people across Viet Nam,” Malik said.
He said he hoped that the UN reforms in Viet Nam would be successful and become a model for other countries to follow.
Viet Nam, one of eight pilot countries volunteering to test UN reform at the country level, is the first Asian country that Malik has visited since becoming the UK Minister for International Development.-Enditem |
