02/09/2007 -- 9:48 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) - The Vietnamese Embassy in Japan , on Sept. 2 - the National Day of Viet Nam - began the provision of visa exemption certificates to the Vietnamese nationals residing in the sunrise country.

The move was in line with the Government's Decision 135 on exempting overseas Vietnamese from visas.

One of the first recipients of visa exemption certificates, Pham Manh Kha, an agricultural expert residing in Saitama province, said the move would encourage overseas Vietnamese to return home and do business. He went on to say that he and his wife planned to depart for Viet Nam on Sept. 9.

"The government has always paid attention to the desires of overseas Vietnamese and this decision will help Vietnamese people living abroad visit homeland more conveniently, said Nguyen Thi Ngoc Trinh, who is residing in Kanagawa province.

Vietnamese Ambassador Chu Tuan Cap expressed his hope that the Vietnamese community in Japan would become a friendship bridge linking the two countries in the future.

On September 1, the Vietnamese Embassy in France presented its first visa exemption certificates to overseas Vietnamese in France . Ambassador Nguyen Dinh Bin said on the occasion that he hoped the number of overseas Vietnamese returning home will increase in the future.

Bui Thanh Tung, General Secretary of the Vietnamese Society in France, said that the Government's decision has brought great joy to overseas Vietnamese in general and the Vietnamese nationals in France in particular. He added that it will help develop links between overseas Vietnamese and their homeland.

Another overseas Vietnamese, Ly Kieu Thu, described the granting of visa exemption certificates as a "reply to those people living abroad who always distort facts about Viet Nam ."

Luu Quang Viet, who was born and grown up in France , said the certificate would satisfy his wish to know more about the Vietnamese history and culture and improve his mother tongue.-Enditem
