Ha Noi (VNA)- The first batch of visa exemption certificates was handed to five overseas Vietnamese in Cambodia on Sept. 4 and 15 other applicants, are currently awaiting, said Ambassador Nguyen Chien Thang. The diplomat said the Government’s new policy to exempt overseas Vietnamese from entry visas will prove to be a boost to the relations between the country and the community abroad. “It (the policy) makes it convenient for overseas Vietnamese to go back and forth between their homes and Viet Nam. This will create more opportunities for integration,” Thang said. The policy, which came into force on September 1, added to the festive environment among the overseas Vietnamese community the world over as it coincided with 62 nd National Day, the 2nd of September. In Germany, 12 overseas Vietnamese families were the first to receive visa-exemption certificates on September 3. Dr. Pham Danh Thoai spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries that the certificate was a milestone in his life. Petra Pham expressed thanks for the Government and ambassador Tran Duc Mau personally for her certificate“. “I have had great experiences with Vietnamese people over the last 30 years. Since I was a university student I was keen on studying about Viet Nam. I’m very happy that from now on I can visit my father’s homeland more frequently,” said the German lady. In Belgium, 20 overseas Vietnamese were granted the certificates on September 3 and the Vietnamese Consulate General in Australia on Sept. 3 handed over visa exemption certificates to 15 people. Consul General Vu Hong Nam said to ensure a prompt grant of the certificates, his staff had to get to work immediately after the Prime Minister’s decision No. 135 arrived in his office.-Enditem
