New York (VNA) – The Vietnamese Consul General in San Francisco on September 6 granted visa exemption certificates to 52 residents of California and other western States.
Vietnamese Consulate General Tran Tuan Anh took the occasion to spoke of the significance of the country’s visa exemption policy. The move, he said, is part of the country’s efforts to build national unity and encourage overseas Vietnamese worldwide to contribute to the country’s national construction and defence.
One of the first recipients of the certificates in the US, Vu Ngoc Trac, General Secretary of the US-Viet Nam Business Association, said the decision reflects the Party’s and State’s care for the overseas Vietnamese community abroad. “We have a sense that we are a part of Viet Nam,” he said.
Jerome Dobson, on behalf of relatives of overseas Vietnamese, said the move is an honour for American people who are relatives of overseas Vietnamese to be given the certificates.
California and the western States of the US are currently home to more than 500,000 Vietnamese nationals.-Enditem
