Businesses pleased with administrative reforms

07/09/2007 -- 8:47 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) – The local business circle has appreciated the government's recent endeavours to step up administrative reform and simplify procedures and expressed wish for continued improvement of business environment.

The most noteworthy in the reform was that the Prime Minister and government ministers held regular meetings with businesspeople to help them seek ways to remove hindrances to their production, said Vu Tien Loc, Chairman of the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).

Another progress was that the Government has boldly given local administrations more power in management duties that brings more advantages to businesses operating in localities, Loc said.

He reported that close to 72.5 percent of the businesses surveyed by the VCCI said they have plans to broaden their operational scope in the next two years.

Besides appreciations, local businesses complained that they had still met difficulties in getting through procedures relating to land lease and the grant of business licences.

The VCCI's survey revealed that 14.6 percent of the questioned businesses had struggled to have a full count of necessary licences and 65 percent of them said they will expand their business if land lease is processed smoothly.

Talking with Lao Dong newspaper on the sidelines of a conference on development of household-based businesses opened in Ha Noi on September 7, Loc said the business circle planned to ask the Government to screen and abolish licences and conditions that are improper in the current situation, and to provide information relating to customs office, commerce, agriculture and so on, in a transparent and open manner.

The businesses have called for the development of infrastructural facilities in urban and suburban areas and especially in localities which have attracted a good source of foreign investment, in addition to the development of a national strategy on education and training to turn out a quality workforce.-Enditem
