Hai Phong (VNA) - More meetings with overseas Vietnamese communities worldwide will be held in the future to help them gain thorough understanding of the Party and State policies.
It was one of the tasks set forth for the 2007-2010 period by the Foreign Ministry and representatives of overseas Vietnamese liaisons of 29 northern provinces and cities at their meeting in Hai Phong city on September 7.
The Hai Phong meeting aimed to review the Party Political Bureau's resolution 36 and the Government's action plan regarding the overseas Vietnamese's affairs.
Participants stressed the need to help overseas Vietnamese strengthen their communities, preserve national identities, study the Vietnamese language, and pursue their religions and beliefs.
They also agreed on the need to complete of the existing mechanisms and the making of new policies to protect overseas Vietnamese' legitimate interest and facilitate their return.
They stressed that related agencies should coordinate to deploy measures to thwart extremists' plans against Viet Nam and increase its cooperation and friendship with the countries that hosted many Vietnamese.
To these ends, government ministries, sectors and localities should join hands to step up the exemption of visas for overseas Vietnamese, create favourable condition for overseas Vietnamese to buy houses in the homelands, streamline procedures on repatriation and nationality, the participants said.
At the meeting, the overseas Vietnamese community in Poland donated 10 million VND to flood victims in the central region.-Enditem
