Prime Minister delivers speech at UN

28/09/2007 -- 11:19 AM

New York (VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung delivered a speech at the high-level general debate of the UN General Assembly’s 62 nd session at its Headquarters in New York, the US, on September 27 (local time).

The Vietnamese Prime Minister made it clear that promted from an aspiration to contribute more to the international community, VietNam in 1997 officially applied for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council for the 2008-09 term.

He said Viet Nam is fully aware of the great honour and heavy responsibility for a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, an organisation entrusted with a leading role in maintaining international security and peace.

“If elected, Viet Nam will fully adhere to the purposes and principles as clarified in the UN Charter, work closely with other Council members and do its utmost to contribute to the UN Security Council’s noble mission,” emphasised the Government leader.
