Ha Noi (VNA) - The Netherlands on October 8 announced a funding package of 2.5 million USD to support United Nations reform efforts in Viet Nam through the One UN Initiative, according to the Dutch Embassy in Ha Noi.
The funding will be allocated to support the One Plan, which is expected to synthesise the programme of all UN agencies in Viet Nam by early 2008.
“The Netherlands is committed to UN reform and supporting the aid effectiveness agenda in Viet Nam,” Dutch Ambassador to Viet Nam André Haspels said.
The funding for the One Plan is unique in that it is not allocated to specific projects, but rather to programme priorities.
“The Vietnamese Government has shown great leadership in ensuring the UN remains a relevant and effective body in this country. A goal we wholeheartedly support,” Haspels said.
Meanwhile, UN Resident Coordinator in Viet Nam John Hendra said “Countries like the Netherlands want to see a UN that is flexible and evolves to better work with Viet Nam to meet its socio-economic development needs.”
“The One Plan is the foundation of the One UN Initiative, and will allow donors to fund efforts to provide assistance to do just that,” Hendra said.-Enditem |
