Ha Noi (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong has asked Party affiliate departments to set examples in the fight against corruption and wastefulness.
The Deputy PM, who is Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Vice Head of the Anti-corruption Central Steering Committee made the request at a meeting on the fight against corruption of the Party’s affiliate departments and the Central Steering Committee in Ha Noi on November 30.
“As advisory organs to the Party Central Committee, the Party’s affiliate departments and the Party Central Committee’s office must set good examples in fighting corruption and wasteful spending,” he said.
“By doing so, the Party and State apparatus will be clean, the people’s trust on the Party will be solidified and the entire political system will be further strengthened.”
Deputy PM Trong also asked the Party’s affiliate departments to take preventive measures in the drive although signs of this scourge have not yet been found in their operation.
Viet Nam has established a Central Steering Committee and a Central Office in charge of fighting corruption.
In addition, three taskforces responsible for the corruption combat were set up, including the Anti-corruption Agency of the Government’s Inspection Committee, the Ministry of Public Security’s investigation police department for corrupt criminals, and the People’s Supreme Procuracy’s Legal Execution, Investigation Inspection Department.
Provinces and centrally-run cities have also established steering boards against corruption.
As many as 1,403 offenders in 540 cases involved in corruption were brought to trials at different levels, of whom two were sentenced to death and four others were given life imprisonment.
The majority of tried corruption cases involved in national major construction projects, land management and use, bank and finance, and trade.-Enditem
