Ha Noi (VNA) – The role of the society and government in anti-corruption, is the main theme of a dialogue held between the government and the donor community in Ha Noi on December 3.
During the first session of the talks, representatives from the Central Steering Committee on Anti-corruption, the Government Inspection Agency, the Ministry of Public Securities and the People’s Supreme Procuracy outlined the country’s anti-corruption efforts and outcomes, and the emerging challenges it faces.
International donors recognised the Vietnamese government’s anti-corruption efforts and said the dialogue served as an effective tool to speed up the country’s battle against corruption.
In their report, researchers from Denmark said the government’s Anti-corruption Law has made encouraging progress in the fight against corruption since it came into effect in 2006. However they noted challenges still remained, especially in gaining the public’s trust in the government’s efforts in this matter.
The second session of the talks focused on the role and responsibility of the society in corruption prevention and control.
Participants stressed the need to encourage people of all walks of life to participate in making anti-corruption policies and relevant programs, particularly the press, non-government organisations and the business sector.
Domestic and international experts also shared experiences in stamping out corruption, particularly through education and awareness-raising.
The dialogue was hosted by the Government Inspectorate, the Central Steering Committee on Anti-corruption and the Swedish Embassy.-Enditem
