Ha Noi to make breakthrough in administrative reforms

04/12/2007 -- 7:01 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) – Ha Noi must make a breakthrough in administrative reforms in 2008, according to the city Party Committee Secretary Pham Quang Nghi at the opening ceremony of the People’s Council meeting on December 4.

Pham Quang Nghi, who is also a politbureau member, urged the city leaders to reinforce administrative reforms, reach and surpass the targeted economic growth rate, improve growth quality and strengthen the economic structural shift toward the service, industry and agricultural sectors.

He also requested better urban management, an improvement in people’s quality of life and social reform in health care, culture, education and sports and training services.

During the three-day meeting, the Ha Noi People’s Council is expected to approve a plan on the city’s land use and land prices in 2008 and a proposal on selling State-owned houses.

The question and answer session will focus on hot issues including solutions to reduce traffic accidents and congestion, the squandering of land use due to lagging projects and job creation for farmers whose land is confiscated.

According to a report by the Ha Noi People’s Committee, the city’s GDP growth rate is estimated at 12.1 percent for 2007, while industrial production value has increased by 21 percent over the last year.

Ha Noi is one of the two top FDI attraction localities in the country with 290 newly licensed FDI projects. Newly registered and increased capital reached 1.7 billion USD this year, meanwhile, total investment for social development is around 47.2 trillion VND, a year-on-year increase of 20.7 percent.-Enditem
