Vientiane (VNA) – The 8th Congress of the Vientiane Overseas Vietnamese Association was held in Vientiane on December 15 with the attendance of almost 130 delegates, representing over 2,000 members living in Vientiane .
The congress passed several programmes in the 2008-2011 term, focusing on educating their young generations about the tradition.
The newly-elected executive board committed to do their best to maintain the communal solidarity bloc, encourage members to strictly abiding local laws, contribute to socio-economic development of Vientiane and look forward to home country.
Deputy Director of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Nguyen Quoc Dung, and representatives from the Lao Front For National Construction Central Committee and the Vientiane chapter of the Lao Front For National Construction took part in the event.
On December 14, a school named after the renowned poet Nguyen Du, a gift from the Vietnamese Government to the Vietnamese community in Vientiane, was put into use.
The school was built by aid from the Vietnamese Government (500,000 USD) and assistance from the Vietnamese enterprises and community in Vientiane and the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee.-Enditem
